What is a certificate of conformity for a vehicle?

The certificate of conformity is an attestation which certifies that the vehicle, when it leaves the factory, complies with and meets all the requirements established by the EU with regard to CE approval and European certificate of conformity. A vehicle with a European certificate of conformity is therefore compliant in Europe and can therefore travel freely in all European countries because its certificate of conformity proves its approval by European type. Also the so-called European certificate of conformity is valid throughout the European community in order to obtain the gray card. The certificate of conformity is only possible for vehicles manufactured for the European market.

A vehicle approved by a CE Type with Community type approval can therefore be registered in all countries of the European Union thanks to its COC or European Certificate of Conformity. The latter includes all the technical data of the vehicle, namely its identification by 17-character chassis number, the model and make of the vehicle, the Community approval number indicated in section K of the gray card, the different weights of the vehicle, as well as other technical data.
