Certificate of Conformity: all about the document

The certificate of conformity (COC) is a homologation document used by any motorist wishing to register his imported vehicle (motorcycle, truck, used car, new ...) to make the French gray card of his foreign vehicle.

It is therefore essential to have the Certificate of Conformity, as it is requested by the ANTS agents when you apply for registration.

Acting as a passport for your vehicle, the European certificate of conformity contains all the useful information, such as the vehicle model, the variant and characteristic of the car, its DIN power, its chassis number, the type of fuel used, the size authorized tires etc…

There is also other information appearing on the certificate of conformity which is used by the ANTS to fill in the fields of the future French gray card such as the COE rate, the fiscal power or even the Community reception number.

So let's learn what is the purpose of the European certificate of conformity and why it is important to make sure when buying a foreign vehicle, that the latter has this document to justify conformity in France. At any time, you can go to the professional site dedicated to the certificate of conformity: www.euro-conformite.com in order to request a certificate of conformity.

A MANDATORY DOCUMENT FOR ANTS

The Certificate of Conformity is a document that you must obtain for your registration card request and that you must provide to the TB center.

With the tax discharge and the insurance certificate, it is one of the documents requested by the ANTS Gray Card service. The certificate of conformity is proof of conformity for the Homologation of the vehicle brand service.

Besides, in the event of non-compliance or lack of a certificate of compliance, it will not be possible to move freely in France with your vehicle. Indeed, it will be impossible to obtain its registration certificate and in this case, you are liable to a fine of € 130 in the event of a roadside check without a French registration card.

Article R233-1 of the Highway Code, stipulates that you must present to the police the documents relating to the vehicle, namely the gray card with a French registration if you reside in France.

UNDERSTANDING THE CERTIFICATE OF CONFORMITY

The Certificate of Conformity is a document given to any purchaser of new vehicles in Europe, guaranteeing that they are in good standing with regard to the requirements of the European type-approval system. It is issued by the manufacturer to ensure free movement in Europe.

Indispensable for registering any vehicle purchased abroad, the COC to be supplied is that which the Prefecture requires for the issue of the French gray card, which makes it possible to identify a foreign vehicle by its Community reception.

It is composed of several paragraph and heading, going from the letter A to the letter Z. It gathers exactly the same fields of the gray card.

Thus, section A refers to the registration number of your car, section B mentions the date of the first entry into service and we find the chassis number at E.

The P field is indicated the energy type.

The certificate of conformity is in the form of A4 paper and is harmonized at European level. Indeed, whether the certificate of conformity concerns a German, Italian or French brand, it will be presented in the same way.
